STIGMATISM - WHO ARE THE ONES ACTUALLY AFFECTED?

By Bruno Fiacco, Founder of A Hero for Epileptics

First things First,

Stigma is not a real thing, it’s a theory that relates back to biblical times and the Dark Ages of the Roman Empire about mental disorders. People these days still like to use the word stigma because it’s the only way that they can justify and relate to (Mental Diseases) as they wish to call them. It makes them think that they know what’s happening; that they know who has the mental illness.

Neurological disorders such as Epilepsy, Autism, Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, Alzheimer’s, Cancer, Etc.

Every problem that relates to the Brain, the most powerful yet least understandable part of who we are is not air-born. You cannot catch or hide from any of the above disorders by running away from people that are trying their hardest to live a life full of serious hardships that you “Stigmatic People” will never understand.

Secondly,

The definition of Stigma is as follows:

“A mark of disgrace or reproach”, “A perceived negative attribute that causes someone to devalue or think less of the whole person”.

Given these two representations for the meaning of stigma, anyone can see that stigma, of any kind, is a deeply negative mindset and provides no value in society in general.

People with mental illnesses represent one of the most deeply stigmatized groups in American culture.

Many of the over 46 million Americans who suffer from some type of mental health disorder may describe and define stigma uses with one of these words or phrases:

HATE, DISCRIMINATION, PREJUDICE, FEAR INDUCING, HUMILIATING AND HURTFUL.

Therefore,

Whose side will you be on when you are denied another job opportunity, perhaps not being able to send your child or yourself to school, or just wish to see the light of another day without being tormented by another person’s intimidation on stigma, when it’s them cursed by this “Stigmatic Rule”, not us!
